ANEME, in partnership with AIDA, is developing the Project + Sustainability + Competitiveness.

Through this, it is intended to sensitize industrial companies to adoption of energy efficiency and diversification practices, and environmental sustainability, warning the growing importance that these factors have come to conquer in the current markets, as essential elements for business competitiveness.

It is hoped that these awareness-raising actions, aimed at companies in the manufacturing industry and in particular at the national metallurgical and metal-mechanic sector, will trigger processes of adjustment to the new realities. It is important to emphasize that sectoral and territorially, the scope of action of the project focuses on areas with a strong exporting vocation that must be strengthened as a way of facing the economic crisis that the country is experiencing.

Also, it is hoped, that the project, through a prospective reading of markets and public policies, can contribute to inform and make companies aware of the adaptations they will have to make in a short or medium term in order to prepare themselves to respond to new energy, environmental and social challenges as a mean of maintaining and strengthening its capacity for internationalization and export.

If in one hand the business fabric has to be prepared for increasingly demanding markets, betting on these issues can also be a factor of differentiation for less demanding markets in these areas.

This is a reinforcement of the progress already made in these issues, but still far from desirable, threatening the competitiveness of our productive fabric.

Thus, through a series of activities, including a survey, we intend to give a strong dynamism to the industrial fabric, around the importance of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability issues, as factors of competitiveness and facilitators of internationalization / export processes.

This survey aims to establish a diagnosis of environmental performance in its various aspects of the industrial sector, as well as to identify the business situation with regard to Environmental Certification, developed under the Project + Sustainability + Competitiveness and will also serve to understand the reasons that led companies to improve their environmental performance, what barriers or difficulties they feel (or felt) and how the market reacted and / or what expectations still exist.

The analysis of the surveys will result in a report / study that will also serve to identify good practices in terms of sustainability and these as a factor of competitiveness in access to new markets. In this way, it is intended to promote a collective awareness of entrepreneurs, with reference to the good practices of portuguese companies.
